Sylvia Beach avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 eu deux librairies anglophones \u00e0 Paris auparavant, o\u00f9 elle a h\u00e9berg\u00e9 de grands \u00e9crivains expatri\u00e9s de l’\u00e9poque et c’est surtout elle qui a publi\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois Ulysse de James Joyce, alors que personne d’autre n’osait le faire. Shakespeare and Company a \u00e9t\u00e9 un centre de la vie litt\u00e9raire anglophone \u00e0 Paris, accueillant James Baldwin, Ana\u00efs Nin, Henry Miller et… Jim Morrison. Les \u00e9crivains, artistes et intellectuels de tout genre pouvaient y dormir gratuitement dans les rayonnages. Leur site clame que plus de 30’000 personnes y ont s\u00e9journ\u00e9. Vrai labyrinthe avec des livres partout, des coins et des recoins, c’est un endroit magnifique et pittoresque auquel je ne m’attendais pas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
