The Peabody Essex Museum is a remarkably eclectic museum. Its collections include a wide range of Asian art – Japanese, Korean, Indian – as well as an entire section devoted to maritime art. Several temporary exhibitions were also on view during our visit. We discovered a small but surprising exhibition of contemporary glass art, as well as Anila Quayyum Agha: All the Flowers Are for Me, a beautiful installation in which a luminous structure projected delicate flower patterns across the walls. Another exhibition, On This Ground: Being and Belonging in America, brought together two collections of Native American and American art, highlighting artistic achievements across different periods, places, and perspectives. It was both thoughtful and very informative. We also spent time exploring the section dedicated to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, described as \u201can example of a community at its absolute worst\u201d. The story of the 25 innocent people who died during the trials is deeply disturbing. The only disappointment was that Yu Ying Tan, an authentic Chinese house reconstructed inside the museum, was closed. Despite that, it was a fascinating and worthwhile museum visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
