This course from Sarah Von Dongen focused on finding your style in your own sketchbook. She explains the different types of sketchbooks, the materials she uses, colours, perspective and anatomy. Then we paint, going through the whole process of real illustration in layers: first, paint, then coloured pencils and markers, and finally a third layer with again coloured pencils and markers. This is an inspiring journey through her world of illustration that is colourful, cute and funny. And she always reminds us to have fun. A beautiful course where I discovered that I could draw people. Ready for another course by Sarah.

“When I was asked to think about what things have influenced my art I looked at the images I came across during my life which sparked an emotional response (excitement, sadness, happiness). Seeing these images together made me realise I mostly pay attention to colour, patterns and textures, and a sense of narrative. But also a touch of magic, the presence of nature and the amount of details is something that comes back in almost all the images in this document. Apart from imagery, I’m also influenced by my childhood memories, the stories I was told and the books I read, the movies I saw, the music my parents listened to, etc.”
