Seth and Richie have robbed a bank and are on the run, trying to cross the border into Mexico. Along the way, they kill several people and kidnap a father, his two children, and their mobile home. Once across the border, they stop at the Titty Twister, a strip club where Carlos is supposed to meet them the following morning and help them disappear. Up to this point, the film is a fairly straightforward gangster movie. But, although Tarantino only wrote the screenplay and did not direct it, the story soon takes a completely unexpected turn, descending into a gory zombie-like horror film. There isn’t much of a plot after that, but there are a few laughs, mostly thanks to scenes that are pushed so far into the absurd that they become surreal. The film offers a little taste of the kind of wild, irreverent cinema Tarantino would go on to develop in his later work.
“Jacob Fuller: Are you such a fucking loser, you can’t tell when you’ve won?
Seth Gecko: What did you call me?
Jacob: Nothing. I didn’t make a statement. I asked a question. Would you like me to ask it again?
Seth: Umm-hmm.
Jacob: Are you such a loser you can’t tell when you’ve won? The entire state of Texas, along with the FBI, is looking for you. Did they find you? No. They couldn’t. You’ve won, Seth. Enjoy it.
Seth: Jacob, I want you to have a drink with me. I insist.”
