Alice is a 19-year-old woman stuck in a society of conventions who has just received a marriage proposal. She runs away and finds herself trapped in the strange world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice, complete with rabbits, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. This film adds a new dimension to the classical story where Alice seems to have already explored this world, but can’t remember. Alice in Wonderland fits Tim Burton’s weird universe perfectly; the scenes and costumes are excellent. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts were inspired choices. It is a beautifully spooky film.
