This story takes place inside the mind of Riley, an 11-year-old girl, where five emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust – help her navigate life. When Riley’s family moves to a new city, Joy and Sadness get lost in her mind, leaving the other emotions to manage… and they don’t do an outstanding job. I thought I was on for a child film, but this kind of felt like a mirror of the mess in my own brain. It also reminded me that all emotions are important, that we shouldn’t repress them all the time, and that they contribute to a balanced and healthy mind. Touching.

Bing Bong : “We’re taking the Train of Thought.”
Joy : “The train! Of course. That is so much faster — but how do we catch it?”
Bing Bong : “Well, it kind of goes all over the place.”
