Derren Brown’s Boot Camp explores the profound impact that emotions have on our thoughts, words and actions. Over eight episodes, he teams up with behavioural scientists to show how understanding and managing emotions – such as fear, jealousy, shame, love, boredom, sadness and anger – can improve our lives. The series culminates in a comprehensive emotional education, offering tools to harness emotions for personal growth and well-being. I really connected with the shame and boredom episodes, lots of fascinating information. And, as always with Derren Brown, witty and humorous throughout. An enriching podcast.

“So what is the doctor advice ? NHS Inform, Scotland’s Health Information Service, offers some practical advice on how to deal with day to day fears and phobias, ways it says to cope with “whatever it is that scares you”. The advice includes : make a cup of tea, breathe slowly and deeply, or visualise a happy place to confront your fear and/or ask yourself what’s the worst that can happen. Well, making a cup of tea definitely sounds like a good tip, but I do wonder if thinking what’s the worst that could happen might backfire, particularly if your fear relates to flying, for example.”
