At its core, Playground is a story about the oceans and artificial intelligence, divided into several storylines revolving around four main characters. It is a tale of how we must protect nature and not rely too heavily on AI. But it is also a story about friendship, love, life, death, regrets, games and poetry. I found this book marvellous: the descriptions of the ocean are magnificent, the thoughts surrounding the creation of AI and its ability to captivate people are intriguing, and the lives of all the characters are touching. The book ends with a twist that gives the whole story a new dimension. The story was so beautiful and moving that I ended up in tears. Wonderful !
“Without the ability to feel sad, a person could not be kind or thoughtful, because you wouldn’t care or know how any-body else feels. Without sadness, you would never learn any-thing from history. Sadness is the key to loving what you love and to becoming better than you were. A person who never felt sad would be a monster.”
