This graphic novel centres on the fictional Alison Bechdel and her partner Holly. It blends themes of climate anxiety and political turmoil with humour and hope. The couple lives in rural Vermont with cats, hens, and rescued goats. While Holly creates sculptures and films, Alison struggles to write a book, meanwhile living off the TV adaptation of her memoir about her father, which has been horribly reshaped. Relationships evolve throughout the book, yet the novel remains delightfully optimistic. Amidst personal chaos and global uncertainty, Bechdel celebrates resilience, love, and the small ways in which people strive to improve their lives.

“-It’s irony and poetic justice on a platter, you don’t need to exaggerate it !
– Alison, it’s called magical realism ! And you know as well as I do that when you signed that contract… you gave me the right to use, change, rearrange, adapt, translate, add to, subtract from, and interpolate into the book any elements whatsoever…
– I know, I know, including without limitation any characters (their names, habits, mannerisms, and situations), dialogue, events, scenes, sets, ideas, plots and themes.
– You’ll see, it’ll be great.”
