This book is a story set on a physical border and a time border, that of England and Scotland and just after their union in 1707. The main character is Sir Edward Mauley, also called the Wise Wight of Mucklestane-Moor, the Black Dwarf, and a few other names. Revenge, jealousy, betrayal, love, friendship, a real story of ancient times. But not an effortless read. The protagonists have several names, and the dialogues in Scottish are pretty arduous to get through. Not always easy to follow and stay in the story. An experience.
