Working first in pencil, then pen, and finishing with watercolour, she shows how to create a sketch that captures the atmosphere of a place rather than its precise architectural detail. The approach is fast and intuitive, gradually layering marks to suggest light, texture and mood, and resulting in a loose, expressive urban vignette. She also discusses her choice of materials, including a few supplies I hadn’t come across before. Overall, it’s an enjoyable, accessible course that gave me a welcome boost to keep sketching outdoors.
“I could have just ignored this or painted it the same colour or something else, but it’s kind of fun to try and do it and the colours are bleeding together, but I’m cool with that. This is supposed to be sort of quick and fun.”
