This is a charming story. A wealthy grandfather and earl needing an heir wants to educate his grandson, brought up in America, to be a true British aristocrat. Contrary to what the earl planned, the young boy, Lord Fauntleroy, is a very well-educated child. He will slowly show his grandfather that he, in fact, has responsibilities regarding those that depend on him and that showing compassion is not a weakness but a strength. “Noblesse oblige”. A slight twist in the middle of the story to prevent boredom and a predictable fairy tale ending but a lovely children’s book.

“To see each of his ugly, selfish motives changed into a good and generous one by the simplicity of a child was a singular experience.”
