The title says all. Women holding things, from a book to the entire world, in their hands or on their shoulders. Souvenirs and thoughts coupled with paintings by Maira of women, anonymous, her family or famous. Virginia Woolf barely holding together, Kiki Smith holding honey in her garden, Esme holding table, glamourous woman holding a can of worms. A very touching book on womanhood with a piece of intelligent advice at the end. As much as we have to hold on, we mustn’t forget to sometimes… let go.

“What do women hold?

The home and the family.
And the children and the food. The friendships.
The work.
The work of the world.
And the work of being human.
The memories.
And the troubles
and the sorrows
and the triumphs.
And the love.

Men do as well, but not
quite in the same way.”
