The story is narrated by Nick Carraway, Jay Gatsby’s neighbour. Gatsby is a mysterious millionaire who hosts huge parties in his magnificent mansion. But he has one and a single aim… to reconquer Daisy that lives on the other side of the bay and is married to Tom Buchanan. Gatsby and Daisy were together five years ago, but Gatsby was poor and then enrolled in the war. He is sure that now that he is rich, Daisy will return to him. But life is never simple. A lot of alcohol and wicked, entitled people will destroy Gatsby’s life without hesitation, and Nick can only observe. The film is close to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book, seems that even his granddaughter approved, and beautifully filmed with playing colourful lights and shades. A cruel story.
“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter – tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther… And one fine morning – So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
