One case per episode, several guesses as to what the patient suffers from, a multitude of tests, and a final diagnosis. That’s how it works. Add Gregory Houses’s bad temper and often abusive behaviour, and this is a gripping series. There are loads of interesting medical content also, even if they all tend to have seizures or suffer from vasculitis initially. This first season has an episode that is a little different. House has to give a lecture to students, and they go through three cases of leg pain (episode 21). This lets us know what happened years ago that made him limp. A very touching episode. I didn’t get to the end of this series when it came out 20 years ago, so it’s fun to start fresh. I hope I will hold the distance this time.

“- I just want to die with a little dignity.
– There’s no such thing. Our bodies break down. Sometimes when we’re 90. Sometimes before we’re even born. But it always happens and there’s never any dignity in it. I don’t care if you can walk, see, wipe your own ass. It’s always ugly. Always. We can live with dignity, we can’t die with it.”
