Francesco Cirillo came up with this time-management technique at college in the late 1980s to overcome a period of low productivity and high confusion. His method is that you work on a task for 25 minutes, then take a break of five minutes, start again for another three of these 25 – 5 minutes sessions and then take a 30 minutes break. You can apply his method just like that or add a few extra rules and sheets to prepare and track what you do. Why pomodoro ? Because the time-tracker he had was a kitchen timer shaped like a tomato. It’s that simple. This is the most straightforward time-management tool I know, and it’s worth trying.

“Remember, Time is a greedy player who wins without cheating, every round!” Baudelaire wrote in his poem “The Clock.”
