Enola has started her own business as a “scientific perditorian”. She disguises herself as Ivy Meshle, the secretary of Dr Ragostin, which does not exist. Her most precious desire is to stay free from her brothers and the society that wants her to be a conventional young lady. Finding work is difficult. She learns that a well-off young lady has disappeared from her mansion and that the police cannot find her. Following every track, every small clue, and dodging her brother Sherlock, who is trying to find her, she will be able to save the young lady from her abductor and keep her freedom. I would have loved to read these books younger and still enjoy them, little mysteries, cyphers, a young ambitious intelligent girl. A pleasure to read.

“If any decent woman’s calling consisted of taking her proper place in society (husband and house, plus voice lessons and a piano in the drawing-room), then this particular woman-to-be prefers to remain indecent.”
