On the day of her birthday, Enola’s mother disappears. She has to call her brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes. They fail to find where their mother is and decide to put Enola in a boarding school… so she flees home, goes to London and gets entangled in the disappearance of Viscount Tewkesbury, Marquess of Basilwether. Both captured by the same men, they escape, and Enola takes the Viscount to the police station. When Sherlock and Inspector Lestrade arrive there, Enola leaves discreetly, leaving the Viscount to be looked after. The story ends with Enola starting her own business as a “scientific perditorian” and having also been able to contact her mother through ciphers in the newspapers. A cute story, the base of the eponym film.
